Just a year ago one of our team, Rhys, wrote us a blog post about a change he’d noticed in the cell line market with increasing numbers of smaller companies, as well as larger well known names, starting to offer knockout cell line catalogues as a challenge to established players. We wanted to showcase the great potential in this relatively newly established market in our awards. At the same time, as close followers of antibody validation methods our interest was piqued by the increasing popularity of sources of knockout cell lines which can provide a powerful way of validating antibodies. We therefore decided that it was only fitting to include a category on knockout cell lines in our annual CiteAb Awards.
This new category allowed us to look at our data and really explore which suppliers were successful in this new and growing market. To make the award we looked at our experimental models dataset for the knockout cell line or lysate supplier with the most citations within the previous 12 month period.
Horizon Discovery was named the winner of our Knockout Supplier of the Year award, with the most citations in the previous year. The company, which is part of PerkinElmer following their successful $383 million dollar acquisition, is focused on driving the application of gene editing and gene modulation within the global life science market.
Horizon has more than ten years of experience in cell line engineering, so is by no means new to this market, and this shows in the company’s success. By combining innovative technology with practical expertise, the company aims to provide cell line solutions to its customers that are of the highest quality. The company has a catalogue of over 7,500 ready-to-go cell lines as well as a custom cell line engineering service.

This is a significant achievement, with data for the company demonstrating a quick upward trajectory in the use of its Knockout products over the last year.
