We are excited to introduce you to the newest member of the CiteAb team: Joseph Cryer!

We first met Joe at the Bath Hack, where he was part of the organisation team behind this successful event. We have sponsored this popular student hackathon, hosted at the University of Bath, over the years.

Joe has now joined the development team here at CiteAb! A computer science graduate from the University of Bath, he brings plenty of experience and passion for web development.

It is a really exciting time for him to be joining the team, with many different projects on the go requiring the most innovative and robust tech.

Development projects at CiteAb and Joe’s experience

This year marked ten years since we launched our reagent search engine, a leading scientific web search tool that helps researchers find products that work. Our developers work on the search engine to ensure it runs seamlessly and provides the most value to over 800,000 scientists around the world who use it each year.

We have big plans to improve our search engine and help even more researchers with this tool. Expanding our development team brings us one step closer to bringing these ideas to fruition!

Joe has completed a 3 month placement at Backlash Build in web development, on top of several freelance projects. This experience will support the work he undertakes on our web-based search projects.

During his time at University, he also completed several machine learning projects, honing his skills in this area. This feeds in well to our machine learning driven data mining projects, another integral part of CiteAb.

We work hard to grow our reagent database through our data mining technology as this powers both the search engine and our data services for suppliers, biotech/biopharma companies and financial companies. We are always improving this tech, which relies on the expertise and creativity of our development team.

Andrew Chalmers, CEO of CiteAb, said of Joe joining the team:

‘We’re thrilled to have Joe join us at CiteAb. It is fantastic to be able to expand our development capabilities, and Joe’s skills are going to be a great asset to the developer team we have here. He brings a lot of enthusiasm and has already slotted into the team really well!’

Joe said:

‘I’m really excited to be officially starting my software development career with CiteAb. Everyone’s been so welcoming, and the culture seems great.

The breadth of technical challenges we’re tackling on a day-to-day basis means I’m constantly learning things, which I’m loving!’

Beyond the office

Outside of the office, Joe is a keen sailor and canoer and can often be found on the water.

He also enjoys board games and has been getting into cooking and baking!
