Introducing our new Environmental Initiative award

We recently launched the 2020 CiteAb Awards, and today we’re going to talk in a little more detail about one of our most exciting new categories – our award for the sector’s best environmental initiative.

None of us can ignore the impact that human activity is having on our natural environment – we reported on our own efforts that we’re making here on our blog earlier this year – and many of you have also been trying to innovate your companies or laboratories in order to reduce your impact on the planet.

In last years’ awards, one nomination in our ‘Researchers’ Choice’ category highlighted that a reagent supplier had changed its packaging from styrofoam to recycled and recyclable cardboard, reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfill.

This nomination got us thinking – there are probably a lot of initiatives taking place like this across the sector, and running an award to highlight them all also gives us the opportunity to share best practice and help those that are looking for ideas on how to reduce their environmental impact.

So – welcome to our new ‘Environmental Initiative of the Year’ category – this is open to all organisations – whether academic or commercial! You can self-nominate or nominate another organisation that has impressed you – but please give us as much detail as possible to help our judges make their decision.

And over the course of 2020 we’ll carry out interviews with the category winner and the initiative selected as ‘highly commended’, plus any others that we feel it would benefit the sector to learn more about. We’ll create a record of the sectors’ best ideas to reduce impact and tips from those behind these initiatives, making knowledge available to all companies so that they can think about their own operations.

Nominations in this and in all of our other categories are now open, and you have until 21st February 2020 to complete your entries.
