Which were the leading antibodies of 2017?

Today we’re looking at the data we collated for antibody citations throughout the whole of 2017 and taking stock of the products that really cut the mustard in the global market.

By looking at the top antibodies of 2017, and overall antibody market trends, we can make very good judgements on which products are seeing an increase in demand, and those that are becoming less popular.

We can also tell which suppliers are making the right catalogue choices, with some providing far more of the top antibodies than others.

CiteAb product manager Rhys Williams says: “We have analysed data for tens of thousands of antibodies from 2017, uncovering the top 100 which received the largest number of citations.

“We’ve run this data for the last few years, and we’re seeing patterns emerge – for example, Cell Signaling Technology, which supplied over a third of the leading antibodies in 2016, has further increased its share of the top antibodies in 2017. In addition, the company also provides the number one most cited antibody for 2017, an Anti-Rabbit IgG, HRP linked antibody. It certainly appears to be on an upward trajectory.”

Conversely we see MilliporeSigma provide 19 of the top antibodies this year compared to 21 in 2016, however it is too early to say whether this signifies a downward trend, with Rhys adding: “It seems likely that this is simply an annual dip that we’ll see picked up in future years, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on this and on other data from CiteAb that could signify otherwise.”

Abcam, SantaCruz and Invitrogen round off our top five suppliers with each providing over 10 of the most cited antibodies of 2017 – these companies have been a top suppliers for a few years and continue to remain strong.

Rhys said: “We also see a few new companies enter the top 100 this year – ChromoTek and Vector Laboratories both managed to get one of their antibodies into the ranking, and newcomers in 2016, Dako and Jackson ImmunoResearch, maintained at least one top 100 antibody each.”

The order for individual antibodies changed considerably in 2017 compared to 2016 – but the overall members of the top ten ranking remained fairly similar with just two newcomers – a Cleaved Caspase-3 (Cat. number: 9661) antibody from Cell Signaling Technology and a Goat anti-Rabbit IgG (Cat. number: A-11008) antibody from Invitrogen Antibodies.

Today we are feeling especially generous, so we’re giving away the details of all 100 top cited antibodies of 2017 for free if you sign up below. If you’d like to see the full dataset of over tens of thousands of antibodies then please contact us and we’ll be able to discuss packages with you.
