Which are 2018’s most used antibodies?
In todays post we’re catching up with CiteAb product manager Rhys Williams who has been looking at our antibody data for 2018 and can give us the latest on the top products in this fast moving and competitive sector.
Rhys says: “We last looked at the top products in the antibody market in July last year, and today we have an update. As usual we have been continuing to improve the quality and the quantity of our antibody market data – and we also collected hundreds of thousands of additional citations for 2018. Today’s analysis is based on over 47,000 antibodies which were cited in 2018.”
Compared to our update on this market last year, we’re not seeing a huge amount of change in the suppliers of the top cited antibodies – Cell Signaling Technology for example has 39 antibodies in the top 100 again, so are in the same position that it was a year ago. MilliporeSigma and Abcam have also maintained their top three supplier position. However, when we look at the top ten antibodies in this dataset we see some newcomers.
Rhys adds: “There are two newcomers to the top 10 this year – Anti-mouse IgG, HRP-linked antibody (Cat. number: 7076) antibody from Cell Signaling Technology and goat anti-mouse IgG-HRP (Cat. number: sc-2005) antibody from Santa Cruz Biotechnology. Both of these new antibodies are anti-mouse, HRP conjugated secondaries which have risen from their respective ranks of 16th and 15th in 2017 to the top 10 in 2018.”
In addition to these two new antibodies, the order within the top ten has been dynamic and there is a fair bit of change in the order. However, Cell Signaling Technology’s Anti-Rabbit IgG, HRP linked antibody has successfully defended the top spot and can now claim the title of being the most cited antibody in 2017 and 2018.
There are also some new suppliers featured in the top 100 antibody data this year – Aves Labs and LI-COR have both joined the ranks of those suppliers that have at least one top 100 cited antibody, alongside ChromoTek, Vector Laboratories, Dako, and Jackson ImmunoResearch.
